Our new obsession

Not the most flattering of photos but bike shorts aren't very flattering on anyone really. My sister-in-law who rides with us (and who is amazingly fit and nearly 24 weeks pregnant!) commented that bike shorts feel good when you are riding and you wouldn't really want to be wearing any other kind of short, but as soon as you get off the bike you feel like everyone is staring. Anyway, this is our new obsession. Nick has had his bike for a we while now and I got mine in the Summer holidays. It is great to be feeling fit again and to get out for a couple of hours by ourselves. Thank goodness for Grandparents who are more than willing to look after the boys while we are out in the fresh air. Nick is still quicker than I am but I am catching up fast. We manage to do anything from 30kms to 50kms in one ride and try to get two rides in every week. It's harder now with it getting darker but there are more school holidays coming up so hopefully we will get out a bit.

Nick challenged himself to get to Akaroa a couple of weeks ago and did it in just over 4 hours. It's about 86kms with loads of hills. He wasn't even sore the next day. It was a good excuse to have a family day out as the boys and I drove over and we all had lunch together and a paddle in the sea.

Easter Break

Here are a few pics from our long weekend. I didn't realise that school went back on Wednesday rather than Tuesday, so it was lovely having another day of rest, if you can call it that when you are runing around after two very energetic boys under two and a half! Nick and I managed a couple of bike rides each while Grandma (Blake) was here and we had a lovely day out at Purau ( a tiny beach village near Diamond Harbour). Joseph had great fun looking for crabs and Rhys enjoyed picking up every little morsel he found (edible or not) and trying to pop it in his mouth before it was so frustratingly taken out of his hand.
Rhys doesn't quite get what the slide is all about but seems happy when he gets to the bottom and can grab a fistful of bark to chew on. And looking at the photo of the crab hunting it's obvious who is having the most fun!

Where's Rhys?

As you can see from the photos Rhys is getting around the house and finding all sorts of places to hide. He tried to climb into the dishwasher this morning and got stuck in the toy corner the other day. I will ask Joseph where Rhys is and he thinks it's great fun running back to me to tell me where he found him. In addition to Joseph being safety officer to Rhys, he is now the timing boy too. He will give Rhys a toy to play with and then say 'nough' and take the toy away from him and put it out of reach.

Harvest Time

Last year Joseph didn't understand the difference between picking green tomatoes and red ones. This year he is better at it and decided to do his own harvest one day when I was busy inside with Rhys. He did quite a good job although the carrots were only just getting their roots in the ground poor things, they are so small you probably can't see them in the photo. Thanks to El Lizo for the great trolley he uses to help carry the load!
